Republican
Adam Taff told a crowd of supporters
Monday that he's ready to try again to unseat U.S. Rep. Dennis
Moore, a Democrat.
Taff got almost 47 percent of the vote
last year in his race against the incumbent congressman.
"This election is about big challenges and innovative
solutions," the candidate said. "That is why I run for
the United States Congress."
Taff kicked off his second campaign
with rallies in
Overland Park
,
Kansas
City,
Kan.
, and
Lawrence
.
Before Taff spoke, letters of support
were read from House Speaker Dennis Hastert of
Illinois
, former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole and Sen. Pat Roberts of
Kansas
, all Republicans.
In his 15-minute speech, Taff, a
political moderate from Lake Quivira,
made no reference to his two announced GOP primary election
opponents but aimed several salvos at Moore.
He is being opposed by two conservatives, Kris Kobach
and Patricia Lightner, both of
Overland Park
.
He criticized
Moore
for sponsoring a bill to reverse the tax cuts approved in 2001.
Taff said that bill "produced a
7.2 percent growth in the GDP (gross national product) in the
third quarter, and added 250,000 jobs to our economy in the past
two months."
Taff, now the national program manager
at National Mortgage Company in
Overland Park
, is also an aviator in the Naval Reserve.
