Citing
his record of service to Marylanders and the American people, the
Republican Main Street Partnership PAC is endorsing Rep. Wayne
Gilchrest for reelection to the House of Representatives in 2004.
“Gilchrest
has been an outstanding representative in Congress,” said RMSP
PAC spokeswoman Kerry Kantin said. “His passion for the environment coupled with his pragmatic
fiscal conservatism continues to prove he is a perfect fit for
Maryland
’s first district.”
Recently
another Republican announced he would challenge Gilchrest in the
GOP primary. Gilchrest, an RMSP
member, has successfully defeated primary challengers in previous
elections (in 2002 he defeated his GOP opponent 60 to 36 percent).
Main Street
has backed Gilchrest’s previous re-election bids.
“It
is disappointing that Gilchrest will face another primary battle,
but we trust that
Maryland
voters will once again recognize his positions and approach to
legislating are in sync with the residents of
Maryland
’s
Eastern Shore
,” Kantin added. “
Main Street
will help however it can to ensure that Gilchrest is reelected to
Congress in 2004.”
