Republican Main Street Partnership PAC Congratulates Brian Bilbray

Centrist Republicans are the Key to the GOP Maintaining its Majorities
In the House and Senate

(Washington, DC) - The Republican Main Street Partnership (RMSP) PAC congratulates former Congressman Brian Bilbray for winning the California 50th special election. Bilbray, a member of Main Street when he previously served in the House, was endorsed and supported by the RMSP PAC. "Congressman Bilbray’s victory demonstrates how critical centrist Republicans are to protecting the GOP majority," said Sarah Chamberlain Resnick, head of the RMSP PAC. "Brian Bilbray proved he is the type of thoughtful, centrist Republican that can win in this difficult political environment."

While Bilbray’s win is cause for celebration, the strong showing by the Democratic candidate, Francine Busby, is an indicator that a worrisome number of independent and centrist voters are defecting from Republican Congressional candidates. Despite the fact that only 30% of voters in California’s 50th are registered Democrats, Francine Busby received over 45% of the votes cast.

"If we are going to win in November, Republicans need to run campaigns that stress issues that unite Americans and appeal to independent and swing voters," said Resnick.

In addition to running centrist campaigns, Republican leadership in Washington can help protect the GOP’s majority party status by advancing a legislative agenda that is focused on the priorities of average Americans. "If we are going to retain our majorities, we need to pass strong ethics legislation, advocate for sensible budgets, and advance sound health, education and environmental policies that will appeal to the center of the political spectrum," concluded Resnick.
