Washington, DC – Today the Republican Main Street
Partnership Political Action Committee began airing T.V.
and radio ads that underscore a major difference between
Brad Smith and Nick Smith: the source of the financing
of their campaigns. Unlike his father, Brad Smith
receives most of his contributions come from
out-of-state donors.
“The mantra of Brad Smith’s campaign is ‘like father,
like son’ – but that’s certainly not the case when it
comes to financing his campaign,” said RMSP PAC
Spokeswoman Kerry Kantin. “While Nick Smith funded his
campaigns with contributions from inside his
congressional district, Brad Smith’s campaign is largely
financed by Wall Street investors and out-of-state
donors.”
The T.V. ad depicts Brad Smith as a puppet of outside
interests and asks voters, “guess who’ll be pulling his
strings”; the radio ad attacks him for taking over
$140,000 in campaign contributions from an east coast
activist group whose leaders have called farmers
“welfare recipients” and called senior citizens the
“most selfish group in America.”
Both spots refer to a campaign finance reform bill
introduced by Congressman Smith that would have
prevented candidates from accepting more than half of
their contributions from outside the congressional
district. Over half of Brad Smith’s itemized individual
contributions are from outside of Michigan, as are
nearly two thirds of his total contributions.

While Nick Smith sponsored legislation

Brad Smith has raised two-thirds of his
money from outside our district.
Including “bundled dollars” from an east coast

Thinking of voting for Brad Smith, cause he’s
just like Nick Smith, his Dad? STOP! DON’T! They
are nothing alike! While Nick Smith sponsored
good legislation trying to make sure this could never
happen, Brad Smith has raised 2/3rds of his
campaign money from far outside our district.
Including “bundled dollars” from an east coast activist
group. Now while Brad says he’s a farmer, an
“Agricultural Engineer,” his mysterious backer calls
farmers “welfare recipients.” They even oppose our
senior citizens, calling them, “the
most selfish group in America today.”
They
are against agriculture, against senior citizens, but
for Brad Smith. What does that tell us about Brad?
We need to vote for anyone BUT Brad Smith. Let’s keep
control of our district in our own hands.
